Adorkable!

Aloha!

No, I'm not in Hawaii (sad face).  I just occasionally get tired of saying things the same way all the time so I thought I'd switch it up a little.  I'm just sitting here being an insomniac so I thought I would share with you a song that I am currently completely obsessed with.  This song is called "Thieves" by She & Him.  She & Him is a completely amazing indie duo consisting of M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel.  I just so happen to be Zooey Deschanel's number one fan.  I absolutely adore her style and I watch her show, "New Girl" religiously so you'll have to forgive me if she makes quite a few appearances on my little blog.

This video captures her quirky retro style so perfectly!

In other news, I have plans this weekend to go see Jekyll and Hyde, the musical at the Durham Performing Arts Center and I could not be more excited!  I have never seen the show before but I have loved and performed many of its songs for years!  Also, I have a possible snow boarding trip coming up the following weekend.  Life is sweet right now, despite the fact that I'm fairly broke and still living at home.  There is so much to look forward to in the upcoming months!

Do you have any exciting plans this weekend?  I'd love to hear about them!

Stay classy, planet Earth!

Love,

Amanda

Always Been Like a Hummingbird

I love the Weepies and I love this song.  I know that people say this all the time and that every time they do it just ends up making them sound really stupid and cliche but I'm gonna say it anyways: I really feel like this song describes me.  Yes, really.

"Always been like a hummingbird and I can't keep still.  Listen up, lover listen up, I never will."

My whole life, I've always felt restless, always wanting to flit from place to place, never satisfied with where I am and always looking for something bigger.  A sweeter or more vibrant flower, if you want to continue on with the hummingbird simile.  Or perhaps it's more that I don't want to stop until I've visited every flower in the garden.  I know it's not always a good way to be and I do try to enjoy the present and live in the moment and all that good stuff. But perhaps it's not all bad.  My restless nature means I'm always moving, never sitting still.  Hence my blog's website name, "at least she isn't standing still".  I know that I can never be happy if my life is too stagnant.  It keeps things interesting, that's for sure.

Anyways, here's a picture of the adorable couple that calls themselves The Weepies:

If you've never heard of the Weepies, be sure to check em out.  They're kind of like a mix between indie and easy listening I think and they're one of my favorite things to listen to when I just want to sit back, relax and be lighthearted.

10 Things I Love #4

1. Pretty much obsessed with this gorgeous dress from Summerland.

2. This video entitled "100 years of style in 100 seconds" originally found here on Oh So Lovely Vintage.

3.  The Cambridge Satchel Company.  Pretty sure I need one of their Batchels.  I don't know how I will ever choose just one color!

4. Moorea Seal's mini book necklaces are oh so pretty!  Perfect for any lover of the written word.

5. This fall's Jewel-toned jacket trend.  I personally own a bright red pea coat from Ann Taylor and if I weren't living on the southern hemisphere this year, I would be wearing the heck out of it right about now.

6.  How gorgeous is this little doll house?!  Is it weird that I want one?

7.  Normally I am against jeggings but I am so digging these legging jeans from GAP.  See miss Kendi of Kendi Everyday make them look ultra chic here.

8.  Another awesome lookbook video from the always fabulous Orla Kiely

9.  Absolutely obsessed with this Anna Sui skirt from Anthropologie.

10.  This super duper awesome little sprout shaped bookmark.  I love plants and I love books... it's a match made in heaven!  This would make an awesome stocking stuffer (*cough* hint, hint, mom).

Welp, that's all for today!  I hope you've enjoyed this latest installment of things I love (aka my "if I was a rich girl" list).  As always any and all comments are appreciated as long as they are nice and/or constructive.

Lots of love,

Amanda G

Hi there.

Just popping in to share another song that I'm loving right now: Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros.

Such a nice song and it's so, so true.  I hope you are having a lovely day, wherever in the world you are.

Music to My Ears

Hi everyone!

I'm just popping in for a quick hello and to share this amazing song and music video with you all.  If you happen to live in Australia, you have definitely seen or heard this at some point recently.  How do I know this?  Because this song is currently #1 on the Australian top 40 list.  Anyways, definitely watch this video.  It's got some pretty abstract painting eye candy in it.  Try to ignore the dude's atrociously bad teeth.

Love this song!  I think that in an hour or two I will give my computer a little break and go for a little bus ride to the Plaza to grab a few things that I've been needing.  It's a perfect day for some shopping; breezy and cloudy.  Have a musical day!

Cheers,

Amanda

1. This beautiful and inspiring collection of photos from Scotsman, David Eustace, featured on the Anthropologist.

2. Vintage Dooney and Bourke bags.

and this one

Can you guess which one now belongs to me?

3. This adorable little top from Chicwish.

4. This music video by Oh Land

I first came across it on Holly's lovely blog, Create Loves.  The whole video is so magical.

5. Gummy candies

I just want to eat my way through this candy display!  Yum yum!

6. This dress is soooo adorable!  But don't go a buy it because I want it.

7. Barbie and Ken's dream wedding album (found on Refinery 29) Link

Aren't these photos just hilarious?  I love how the photographer uses Barbie to make fun of common wedding photography cliches.

8. This incredible wedding video and wedding design inspired by Water for Elephants

This wedding looks soooo magical!  It makes me want to start planning my own wedding (just kidding mom)!

9. Colorful tights!

I'm a little jealous of all the people back home who are starting the dip into fall.  It's starting to get too warm here for tights now.  Photos from We Love Colors and Mod Cloth.

10. Carmex.  It's just one of those things that I can't live without.

I hope you all are having a wonderful, wacky Wednesday.  I have no plans for the day since I'm not scheduled to work again until Friday.  I think I will while away the hours until Tim comes home by catching up on blog and book reading, doing some laundry, and continuing the never-ending search for a day job.  What are you filling your day with?

Note:  I ended up having to write this post twice because I accidentally exited the tab while I was editing it and all of the changes hadn't been saved.  I was cursing quite a lot, but quietly because the guys are in the other room watching a movie.

Cheers,

Amanda

New Playlist!

I know it has been a long time coming, but I finally have a new playlist up.  There is no theme here at all, these are just a bunch of songs that I happen to like.  Please let me know what you think, and if you like my music choices, please suggest some bands for me to check out!

Ciao for now,

Amanda

Introducing my very talented friend

My friend Patrick Cortes is a singer/songwriter/general sound artist.  His one-man-band is called Animal Weapon.  If you are a fan of electronic sounds, you should definitely check him out.  He also has some self-titled music which you can find here.  He also recently collaborated on a hip-hop song with Ike Beezy and Johnny Cotton.  The song is called Black and Blue.  Check it out!

More music.

Hugs n kisses,

Amanda!

Free playlists?!

One day last week, I had some time to kill before work, so I stopped in at the Cameron Village Starbucks for a Frappucino (which is what I always get from Starbucks, even when it's winter).  While I was there I picked up this nifty little card that had an iTunes code on it.  Using that code, I was able to download my very own summer playlist!  Apparently, Starbucks comes out with a new playlist card each week and releases them every Tuesday.  How cool is that?  Check out the awesome songs that I got, courtesy of Starbucks!

Ok, so I don't love all the songs but it was free so I really can't complain.  In other news, today was moving day.  All of my furniture is now nestled snugly in my grandma's garage.  All of my clothes were hauled to my parents' house in trash bags.  I have yet to figure our how I'm going to fit them all in their appropriate spots.  My closet is already jam-packed full.  I miss my old closet already :(  Oh well, let's hope that wherever I end up living in Australia, we have a big closet.

Arrivederci,

Amanda!

My Current Music Obsession

Ellie Goulding: Lights

I am OBSESSED with this song.  Make sure you click pause on my playlist on the right hand side of my page so you can listen to it.  I think I might give it a go at karaoke night next week :)  I haven't really checked out her other music yet, but I promise to do so soon.  You should too!
